Summary: The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Shipping Assistant for 90 days fixed-term contract.
Work schedule:  Full Time – 40 hours per week
Start Date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end
Supervisory Position: No
Duties: Under direct supervision of Assistant General Service Officer or Shipment Supervisor, the incumbent prepares import/export documents for customs clearance and delivery of incoming and outgoing shipments of household effects, consumables and POVs for Mission employees, and for official USG supplies, equipment and vehicles.  Delivers documents to customs authorities and to packing/freight forwarding companies.  Facilitates the release of shipments arriving at the airport and port of Djibouti.  Expedites arriving and departing American personnel, TDYers, visitors and VIPs through airport customs and immigration procedures.   Assists diplomatic courier at airport/Support flights. Send Welcome information/advises for the new assigned personals. Fill-in all information’s on ILMS system and send the information correctly.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

Education: Completion of Secondary School is required.

Requirements:

Prior Work Experience:  A minimum of two years’ experience in transportation field closely related to providing customs and shipping services, transiting and  expediting to include handling shipping documentation such as import and export documents is required.

  1. Post Entry Training:  Training will be given in US Government policies and procedures relating to all aspects of transportation of goods.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Good knowledge of Ethiopian customs regulations, immigration procedures and import/export procedures.  Knowledge of US Government regulations regarding shipping and routing.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:  English and Amharic language level 4 (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required. (English Language will be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Computer skills are required. Must have valid Class 2 driver’s license.  Excellent interpersonal skill organization skills are essential as is a high degree of tact.  (This may be tested)

Qualifications:  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
