Key requirements:
– French language and/or Arabic language
– Middle East area studies
– Security studies and international relations research
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in international relations/political science or related field. At least one year experience as a Research Assistant. Strong research, writing and communication skills. An in-depth knowledge of the region and its security-related issues. Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in Arabic or French, proficiency in both languages preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to rapporteur during conferences, seminars, and workshops in near-real time. Ability to multi-task, Ability to work both with a team and independently. Must be a US citizen.
Responsibilities:
80%) Research Associate Support
Provides research support for faculty members with a regional Mediterranean focus to conceptualize, organize, and research a wide range of regional and Mediterranean-related topics. Responsibilities include collecting and organizing seminars courses; researching economic, demographic, social and political data; drafting position papers; rapporteuring at conferences, lectures, course seminars and independent organizations’ meetings; updating faculty on relevant regional developments; contributing to NESA periodic circulation.
(10%) Personal Research
Focuses on personal research and independent analysis relevant to security issues and strategic regional dynamics in the Mediterranean.
(10%)Research Database Management
Maintains Academic Resources Coordinator created databases to maintain up to date roster of speakers, robust academic content on the NESA Center’s websites, and NESA Center and NESA Alumni Blackboard modules on specific topics.
Salary:
$44,000 – $ 45,000 base with benefits
