Staple Crops Value Chain Advisor

CARANA Corporation, a U.S.-based contractor for USAID seeks technical experts for the anticipated Kenya Agricultural Value Chain Enterprises project (KAVES). The KAVES project will focus on increasing agricultural productivity within staples, dairy and horticulture value chains. Kenyan nationals seeking short- and long-term positions with five to ten years of experience are encouraged to apply.
Duties:
Staples Value Chain Advisors will support implementation market-led initiatives and activities targeting a variety of staple crops, including maize, sorghum, cassava, yams, beans and other pulses. Activities including but not limited to: strengthening farmer groups, inputs markets, production, technology transfer, post-harvest handling, storage, processing, standards, access to finance market-access, and market linkages. Advisors will work with a variety of Kenyan and regional organizations, government agencies and private sector partners in partnerships and alliances resulting in increased food security and incomes in Kenya.
Qualifications:
Relevant experience with USAID or other donor organizations working in economic development, particularly those related to agricultural value chain enhancement;
Technical expertise and experience in evaluating and proposing improvements to staples value chains;
Demonstrated experience generating increased sales and employment by strengthening value chains;
Market linkage experience;
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment;
Fluent in English, knowledge of Kiswahili preferred;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
University degree in agriculture, business agriculture or another relevant discipline required. Masters degree in relevant field preferred.
